  1. Why should I use Luminari?

    Luminari helps you keep your ear to the ground on the job market without having to do any work. We give you a feed of relevant jobs all the time while protecting your identity. Plus, it’s free!
  2. But I’m not looking for a job…?

    No problem! Luminari is designed specifically for you in mind. Even if you don’t think you’ll be moving jobs in the next couple of years, it always pays to know what you’re worth and what opportunities are out there for you.
  3. Why is this for passive candidates?

    Passive candidates are people who are comfortable where they are but open to moving for the right opportunity. Luminari has made it such a small time commitment to be kept aware of interesting opportunities, that you can do it all the time. And we also have other cool things like non-profit volunteer opportunities!
  4. Is this only for traditional accounting jobs?

    Absolutely not. We have both traditional and non-traditional jobs. We take specific pride in bringing new and interesting opportunities to CPAs, including ones you may not have previously considered.
  5. How much does it cost?

    Nothing! Being a member is free and always will be.

  7. What are these non-profit opportunities that I’ve seen mentioned?

    We know that many CPAs like to give back and help non-profits with their professional skill-set. That’s why Luminari is teaming up with non-profit organizations to give you opportunities to help them. We don’t charge non-profits for this service, so if you know of any that could some help, let us know!
  8. What if my employer is on Luminari?

    Don’t fear! No one can search your profile on Luminari, so unless you plan on applying for a job at your own company through Luminari, you’re safe. Plus, since we always show you the company name, you won’t ever apply to your company by accident.
  9. How much time does it take?

    They usually fall in between 30-45 seconds. Depending on your preferences, it’s safe to say it’ll take less than 15 minutes a year.
  10. Can I use a recruiter as well?

    Absolutely. If you become an active candidate while on Luminari, you should use every tool at your disposal. And we know Luminari will be a big part of that.
  11. Can anyone find out that I’m on Luminari?

    Not unless you want them to. No one can search you up so the only time a company will know that you’re a member is when you express interest or apply to a job of theirs. It’s all in your hands.
  12. How often do you send me jobs?

    It’s up to you! Right now, we have two options for you to choose from; immediately or periodically. Going forward, we’ll expand these options to give you increased customization.
  13. What types of companies/roles do you have?

    Every company needs to hire CPAs, whether in a traditional role or not. We pride ourselves in getting a great diversity of those roles but most importantly, giving our community what they ask for.
  14. Is there a mobile app?

    Not yet but it’s in the works for 2017!
  15. Why isn’t Luminari in all of Canada yet?

    We’re starting in Toronto and we’ll be expanding geographically within Canada based on where people who want to join are from. Not interested in roles in Toronto? Do the sign-up, we have a special place where you can be notified when we enter your area.
  16. Will Luminari send my resume out to anyone?

    Only for the jobs that you specifically apply for. We would never send it out otherwise.
  17. Is Luminari a recruiter?

    No, we don’t get a commission when you get hired. Our sole purpose is to help companies and people find the right fit for each other. We won’t harass you at the office but, we're always around if you want to chat!
  18. Will I get to see the company names and salary range?

    Company names, always. For salary ranges, when a company is okay with publishing it, then yes. When they aren’t, we use the number you provide us to make sure we’re always in the range you’re looking for.
  19. Do I have to be a CPA to be on Luminari?

    Yes, you have to be a Canadian CPA (or student working towards their designation) to be able to be on Luminari, right now. If you’re not a CPA but think this would be great for your industry, we’d love to hear from you. Contact and we can chat!
  20. What if I’m a CPA student?

    Students are allowed, as long as you’re officially registered as a CPA student.
  21. Can I update my preferences after the sign-up?

    Absolutely. Everything you need is in your profile tab once you sign in.
  22. Why is it called Luminari?

    \ˈlü-mə-ˌner-ē\ The definition of Luminari is: “a person of prominence or brilliant achievement.”

  1. Why should I use Luminari?

    Because you want to find the best talent without spending too much time or too much money doing so.
  2. Is Luminari a recruiter?

    No, we’re a community that connects great companies with the hidden CPA talent.
  3. What makes Luminari different?

    We believe in the less is more approach to recruiting. By giving you better quality candidates, more consistently, we can reduce your candidate-to-hire ratio without breaking the bank. And part of our secret is accessing passive candidates, to give you an option outside of expensive recruiters.
  4. How much does it cost?

  5. Does Luminari require exclusivity?

    No, you’re free to use any other hiring method you want but we suggest letting Luminari do its work before you try something else.
  6. Who can join the Luminari community?

    Only registered Canadian CPAs can join the Luminari community.
  7. Why is Luminari different?

    Luminari is built for passive candidates, giving you access to a group of people who are otherwise only available through expensive headhunters.
  8. Can I post a job myself?

    Not yet but we’re working on a dashboard for companies to use themselves. In the meantime, just call us and we’ll take care of everything.
  9. Is there a subscription?

    Not yet but it’s something we’re considering for the future if companies are interested in that type of model.
  10. Is there a mobile app?

    Not yet, it’s in the plans for 2017!
  11. Does it integrate with my ATS?

    Not yet. We’ll be working on integrating Luminari into all of your favourite ATS’ shortly.
  12. How do I receive applications?

    Right now, we send you vetted applicants personally.
  13. Does Luminari screen applications?

    Yes, we make sure that every member you see is worth your time.
  14. How long does a job stay posted?

    The post stays on our job board for one month, but more importantly it gets sent out in our Job Feed, reaching targeted CPAs for your role.
  15. What else is included in the price?

    On top of giving you quality candidates, we also provide engagement data and vet candidates for you.
  16. Can I search for members on Luminari?

    Nope, our community is completely anonymous until they express in a position. Once they do, we’ll send them your way.
  17. What if I don’t need to hire a CPA?

    Well maybe you haven’t thought of using a CPA in a non-accounting role. CPAs are very well rounded professionals with great operational know-how that can be a huge asset to any organization.
  18. Does Luminari notify candidates that I reject?

    Yes, we make it a point to let our community know what’s happening.
  19. Why do I get “Interested” candidates in addition to formal applicants?

    The “Interested” feature allows our members to informally start a conversation with you if they have more questions about the role. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re less interested but it might be that they’re very busy in their current role and want to make sure it’s worth both of your time before pursuing it further.
  20. How long does it take to receive applications?

    You’ll start receiving applications within the first few days of posting and continue to receive them during the entirety of the job posting.
  21. How do you make sure I don’t get too many applications?

    We use a multi-level filtering process as well as machine learning algorithms to narrow down only the best members for you.
  22. Can I choose which members receive my job brief?

    Yes, by providing the key relevant info of the open position, we’ll make sure it reaches the right people.
  23. What is a job brief?

    A job brief is a concisely communicated, shareable, job description that makes up our job feed.
